Meet our Guest: Dr. Mary Lucus Flanery

I’m a Product Manager who is passionate about storytelling. I believe storytelling connects us all as we ideate and create meaningful products to propel our business. I believe in authentic designs that resonate with users.

But I wasn’t always a Product Manager! I’ve had assorted careers—as a waitress, recruiter, writer, marketer, lead salesperson, coach, event organizer and presenter. Each stop taught me something, from the value of restraint, to the need for authenticity. I’ve learned to not just solve problems, but to become a problem sleuth, looking for hidden innovation and streamlined systems. I’ve learned to ask questions and listen hard (harder than ever before) for the answers behind the answers. We all carry our own story – spoken and unspoken – and story is what connects us. As a product manager, I am a maker. The key to making something that connects is storytelling. Storytelling is not about showing the customer something. It’s about making the customer feel something. I believe in authenticity and curiosity as keys to a well lived life. I’m always learning. I’m a sailor and a self-taught knitter (thanks to YouTube). I am taking a class in UX design. I ski very badly – but I keep going every winter. I look forward to learning and connecting with you.
