Meet our Guest: Dr. Goldi Jacques-Maynes

Hi, I’m Dr. Goldi.

I’m proud to say that I am profitable at every patient visit.

Yet, my first 8 years in private practice, I was not profitable at all.

When I started in 2008, I fell in love with caring for my patients. But loving patient care wasn’t enough. I quickly hit burnout due to the stress of being a young mom and the high volume of patients. I actually lost money my first 3 years in business. I felt depressed, overwhelmed, and burnt out. I closed my first office.

Then I decided to make my business work for me, instead of everyone else.

I started really focusing on my self-care and my family. I scheduled time for exercise and body work. I saw a therapist and worked through some of my traumas. I started to learn the power of delegation and started to dabble in online marketing. I got support with medical billing. In 2015 I felt ready to try again to build my dream practice.

But there was still a lot to learn.

I hired employees, but I had no idea how to manage people.

I didn’t have strong boundaries. I didn’t understand HR and compliance. I inherently trusted people, so I got burned by dishonesty, selfishness, and laziness.

I faced dwindling insurance reimbursements over the years.

With Worker’s Compensation and Personal Injury claims there was a high volume of paperwork. Many insurers had lengthy payment timelines. With one plan, it would be cheaper to hand a $10 bill to every patient on that plan than to continue accepting it!

I thought about it long and hard.

I needed a coach.

I knew I needed help, so I hired a coach to help me figure things out. First I worked one-on-one with a coach, then I joined a mastermind of like-minded healers. The support I got has made all the difference.

I chose the word Profit as the focus for my business.

My energy and my ability to generate an income for my family both went up.

Working with a business support system forced me to lean into my business finances. I started looking at statistics, spreadsheets, and data, which I really hated.

I started putting all my numbers in there — how many visits, how much revenue? I started looking at my insurance contracts and my costs per visit.  I really got into the nitty gritty of making a profit.

Today, the numbers go up every quarter.

I used to avoid my stats. Not anymore.

I can't wait to get to the end of the month and look at my numbers.

I went from taking anti-anxiety and antidepressant medications to exercise, meditation, and self-care.

My relationship with my husband used to feel paralyzed, today we really talk, really have fun, and make financial decisions based on our mutual goals and dreams.

It was easier to do the hard things when I had the right kind of support and accountability.

The connections I've built with my coaches are deeper than a profitable business plan. My mastermind connections have become ever-deepening friendships. It’s the desire to help other women design their businesses and their lives that has lead me to coaching.

We women in healthcare want to help people.

We have a huge heart for service, but when it comes to charging money, we are not sure what we’re worth.

I want to change that. I want to help women earn as much as they want. I want them to feel as excited as I do in the morning. I get to help people heal in my chiropractic office. I get to help fellow healthcare entrepreneurs design their businesses around their lives.

I am the founder of Golden Chiropractic in Aptos, Ca and you can read more about me here.
